Abstract

The availability of non-renewable energy sources is dwindling, inversely proportional to renewable energy sources whose availability is increasing and always available. a cheaper solution and has a good impact on the environment by conditioning the building using a wind catcher with a natural air ventilation system. The wind catcher has the working principle of catching fresh air from the outside and then flowing it into the building to release the heat in the room, aiming to eliminate the stuffy atmosphere. This research was carried out using experimental and numerical methods, experimental data retrieval was carried out by taking data several times every 15 minutes within one hour from 09.00-15.00 WIB. The highest parameter value generated at the wind speed that enters through the windward is 3.16 m/s and enters the room with a wind speed of 2.2 m/s, with a temperature of around 30.3oC, the temperature in the windward is 33.7oC and room temperature to 31.9 oC. with cloudy weather conditions and sunlight intensity 241.5 W/m. The highest intensity of sunlight in this study with a value of 794.18 W/m2 at 14.00 which affects the temperature to 31.7oC resulting in a decrease in humidity to 28.9%. The highest value of air change per hour (ACH) achieved in this study was 23.68, which means the number of changes in all air in the room with fresh air from outside every hour. The type of flow that occurs in the wind catcher is turbulent when the wind enters through the windward and laminar when the wind enters the room. The intensity of sunlight is directly proportional to the humidity and temperature of the wind catcher system with this natural ventilation. Wind speed is directly proportional to ACH. What affects the distribution of the wind on the wind catcher is the weather that continues to change.
