Abstract
It is important to know the condition of road damage to be used as a basis for carrying out maintenance and repair activities. Road damage can be caused by several factors, including excessive vehicle loads (overloading), high traffic loads, inappropriate planning, implementation that is not in accordance with existing plans, and lack of supervision of road conditions. This study aimed to identify the level of damage, analyze the type of damage, and compare the results of the pavement condition index and surface distress index methods. The Pekanbaru - Taluk Kuantan road section is a provincial road and functions as an arterial road connecting the city of Pekanbaru - Taluk Kuantan. The length of the road is approximately 161.3 km, mostly using flexible pavement (asphalt). The research was conducted at sta 4 + 800 - 5 + 800 because the road was damaged due to excessive traffic loads. In this study the data obtained were based on the results of a survey of road surface conditions to obtain the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and Surface Distress Index (SDI) values. Based on the results of the research, the level of road surface damage according to the PCI method obtained an average value is 25.3 which is in poor condition, while according to the SDI method, the level of road damage is included in a heavily damaged condition with an average value is 242. The ones found according to the PCI method are longitudinal / transverse cracking, alligator cracking, potholes and patching, while according to the SDI method the number of cracks, crack width , the number of holes and ruts. The comparison of these two methods can be seen from the percentage value according to the PCI method, namely the failure condition is 30%, very bad 20%, bad 30%, just 20%, while the percentage value according to the SDI method is 80% severely damaged and 20% lightly damaged.
