Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of increasingly sophisticated communication, making it easier for information to move quickly so that new communication media using the internet network as an online information media. To meet the information needs of each individual, many things are done, as done by the Siak Regency Government by launching the TERAS application. The TERAS application is used to disseminate information about Malay culture, both from tourism, MSMEs, creative economy, and Malay culture in accordance with the tagline of the Siak Regency Government, namely Siak the Truly Malay. This research uses the theory of Uses and Gratification. This theory focuses on the efforts of acceptance in communication as well as explaining the use of media by individuals. This research uses qualitative descriptive research methods. The technique used in determining the subject of the study was purposive sampling with several informant criteria that were suspected to be able to provide credible information about the application of TERAS. From the results of the study, it was found that the benefit of the TERAS application is that it can access it with a large range, especially to the Siak community who are outside the city through smartphones. In addition, this application provides information about Malay culture, especially in Siak, such as through short films using malay language, Malay music, introduction to historical tourism, religious tourism, culinary tourism, and others. Thus encouraging to build the tagline Siak the Truly Malay as a formation of the city's identity known to the wider community. Another benefit of the TERAS application can be a source of reference and a place to express ideas for Malay cultural content.
