Abstract

The occurrence of corrosion in the oil and gas industry pipelines will cause a reduction in the quality of iron, the collapse of the construction, and disrupt the flow of fluid in the pipelines which causes leaking. There are two ways to overcome this corrosion, namely with organic inhibitors and inorganic inhibitors. Inorganic inhibitors are toxic, non-biodegradable and not friendly to the environment, therefore organic inhibitors are currently being developed to overcome corrosion problems. In this study, the organic inhibitor that will be used is derived from water hyacinth extraction because water hyacinth has lignin compounds that can help slow down the reaction between oxygen and ferrous metal in forming corrosion. The method used is the maceration method, after which it will be tested using Chesson and will then be sampled to determine its effect on corrosion reduction in the hope that this research is successful in determining the effect of lignin contained in water hyacinth on corrosion that occurs in pipelines. Based on the results of the research conducted, it was found that the water hyacinth inhibitor had an effect on the corrosion rate and efficiency where the lowest corrosion rate was found at 72 hours immersion, namely 0.47 (mmpy), the lowest corrosion rate at 144 hours immersion was 0.94 (mmpy), the lowest corrosion rate at 216 hours of immersion 1.1 (mmpy), the lowest inhibitor efficiency value at 72 hours immersion was 79.4%, the lowest inhibitor efficiency value at 144 hours immersion was 73.3%, and the lowest inhibitor efficiency value at 216 hours immersion was 63.1%.
