Abstract

Exploration drilling costs cover 30-50% of the total exploration for geothermal field development, and the data used is still very limited. So that exploration drilling has a high level of risk, then this must be minimized by reducing costs in exploration drilling activities where one of the methods is the selection of the right casing design. Geothermal wells are wells that are designed or completed differently depending on the geothermal system or the use of the well. Hot drilling is a method to determine the target zone which is estimated to have reserves or hot steam resources that can potentially be used as geothermal power plants. In addition to determining the destination zone, you can also find out the presence of a heat source, there are several aspects that must be carried out during the drilling process, such as the right temperature to be used as a power plant, the permeability to flow reservoir fluids and the type of fluid for surface facilities. This study uses types of geothermal wells, namely standard wells and slimhole wells based on a standard casing size of about 9 5/8” with a depth of 1500 – 3000 meters below the surface and a slimhole well 9” and a depth of between 1200 – 2300 meters below the surface. In this study, a comparison is made to calculate the economic value of standard wells and slimhole wells in geothermal fields based on the New Zealand code 2015 method. The total cost required for drilling and completion of well-1 well-1 in geothermal field using a standard well design is around USD 5,901. 685.25 while slimhole wells cost around USD 2,589,713.18 Therefore, drilling slimhole wells can minimize costs compared to standard wells and drilling slimhole wells also gets more accurate data.
