Abstract

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a weed, has a high cellulose content. Water hyacinth cellulose is a potential source of raw material for the manufacture of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). CMC is a cellulose derivative mixture that is biodegradable, colorless, cannot be fused, is not opposed, granules or powder that dissolves in the air. CMC in water hyacinth has cellulose content of 60%. EDX Testing (Dispersive Energy X-Ray Analysis) CMC hyacinth samples using EDAX AMETEK tools at the Central Laboratory of FMIPA UM - State University of Malang, can find elements in CMC which contain Carbon (C) elements of 60.99%, It is uncertain Oxygen (O) of 38.91%, uns Plumbum / Lead (Pb) of 00.03% and Chlorine (Cl) of 00.07%. Related, the presence of carbon and oxygen can be found in CMC water hyacinth. Carbon which calculates the amount of a polysaccharide (cellulose) content. To determine the effect of adding CMC EG additives on G class cement suspension, the filtration loss and free water tests were carried out with BWOC concentrations of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5%. From loss filtration testing with CMC EG additives, the approved results are feasible at 2% and 2.5%, due to the results of the filtrate obtained below 250 ml. The result of free water testing is by agreeing to CMC EG, which every addition of CMC additives can reduce water free. This is because CMC opposes adsorption which can bind air in the drilling cement.
