Abstract

In general, particle board is one type of product made of wood particles. An innovation that can be developed is by utilizing oil palm empty fruit bunches, which is one of the oil palm solid wastes. In addition, the amount of plastic waste that is not easi ly biodegradable can cause adverse impacts on the environment. In this study using recycled plastic (Polypropylene). The purpose of this study was to obtain optimum mechanical properties from variations in the mixture of oil palm empty fruit bunches with recycled plastic (Polypropylene) with a matrix composition comparison. And get the physical properties of water absorption of particle board. And to get the particle board properties from empty bunches. The stages of this study began with the manufacture of particle board molds, preparation of materials, refining of oil palm empty fruit bunches, composition of materials consisting of 50% TKKS : 50% PP, 40% TKKS : 60% PP, and 60% TKKS : 40% PP, and the last specimen was tested which consisted of a density tes t, a moisture content test, a thick development test , water absorption test and an MOE and MOR test. Based on the results of research conducted on, the use of oil palm empty fruit bunches and recycled plastics (Polypropylene) as composite particle board mat (broad particles), showed that all the percentages of the mixture for testing the density and moisture content had met SNI. For testing the development of thickness and water absorption, a mixture percentage of 60% TKKS: 40% PP has not met SNI. For MOE testing, all mixed perce ntages do not meet SNI. For MOR testing, the percentage of mixture 40% TKKS: 60% PP has not met SNI.
