Abstract
This study used fern roots as material for making particle boards. The purpose of this study was to obtain the physical and mechanical properties of a mixture of fern roots with resin adhesive and maleic anhydride chemicals with 3 different mesh sizes. The stages of this research began with material preparation, making particle board molds, refining the roots of 14 mesh, 16 mesh and 18 mesh of ferns. The composition of the material consists of 70% fern root, 25% resin and 5% maleic anhydride, then hot pressed with a temperature of 190 ^ 0C. from the calculation results we can get the value of the density test of 00,89 gr/cm^3, 0,69 gr/cm^3 and 0.68 gr/cm^3. Water content of 2,15 % , 1,81 % and 2,47 %. Thick development of 4 %, 5 % and 8%. Modulus of elasticity (MOE) of 7,8641 (〖10〗^4 kgf/〖cm〗^2)., 8,9651 (〖10〗^4 kgf/〖cm〗^2)., and 5,3791 (〖10〗^4 kgf/〖cm〗^2). Modulus of rupture (MOR) of 26,6268 kg/〖cm〗^2, 27,7026 kg/〖cm〗^2 , and 13,9854 kg/〖cm〗^2 From the results of all tests carried out only the modulus of rupture (MOR) testing did not meet the SNI-03-2105-2006 standard.
