In 2020, the world was in a panic state with uprising cases of COVID-19 around the world, especially in Indonesia. There are procedures to reduce and prevent the transmission of COVID-19, one of them is to wear a mask. The public would have several factors on deciding whether to buy a mask or not. And it seems one of the factors on deciding it, is perception. This research aims to find the correlations between public perceptions on COVID-19 with decisions on buying masks. Subjects of this research is 400 citizens of Pekanbaru city with age range from 15 to 60 years old. The sampling method used in this research is Purposive Sampling. The data gathering method use the scale of COVID-19 perceptions with 18 items and the scale of decisions on buying mask with 21 items arranged by the researcher. Rank Spearman’s method is used with r correlation coefficient value of 0,728 and sig value of 0,000. From the result of the data analysis, it can be concluded that there is correlation between perception towards COVID-19 and the decision on buying masks. The more perceptive the people are with COVID-19, the higher the decisions on buying masks and vice versa.
