Abstract

Altruism behavior is an ability to care about the feelings of others by providing help that is done intentionally by prioritizing the needs of others over one's own needs, which is expected to be able to provide benefits for others by not wanting anything in return. The high and low behavior of altruism can be influenced by several internal or external factors, one of which is emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is the ability of individuals to process and express their emotions in a healthy manner, the ability to motivate themselves or others. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between emotional intelligence and altruism behavior in nursing students at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health Riau. This research design used quantitative research with 152 subjects, which are students majoring in Nursing at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health, Riau. The researcher determines the research subject by using Probability Sampling with simple random sampling technique. The data collection method used in this research is with Emotional Intelligence Scale compiled by (Huda, 2020) with a total of 21 items and the Altruism Behavior Scale compiled by (Utomo, 2013) with a total of 22 items. The data are analyzed using Spearmen Rank Order correlation with the results obtained showing the correlation coefficient r = 0.806 with a value of 0.000 (ρ <0.05). So it can be concluded that the higher the emotional intelligence, the higher the Altruism Behavior of Nursing Students at the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health Riau.
