Abstract

This study is motivated by the trending discussion topic of profession zakat among scholars, sharia economists, and other workers. Actually, zakat profession had already existed in the period of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. However, many people in Pekanbaru city consider that the profession zakat is not obligated to pay. The reasons why many people are reluctant to pay profession zakat because the living necessities are still not fulfilled and installments are piling up. Although the government of Pekanbaru city has made a policy regarding profession zakat, however, some citizens in Pekanbaru city have not yet accepted the policy. The problem formulation of the study: how is the perception of Pekanbaru citizens on profession zakat? The aim of this study is to find out the perception of Pekanbaru citizens on profession zakat. The theoretical framework of this study is the perception of Pekanbaru citizens determined by personal factor, situation factor, and personal factor to the target. The type of this study is field research with qualitative method. The data sources are primary and secondary. The population in this study consists of 384 people. The sampling technique used in this study is Krejcie Morgan's formula. The data collection techniques used are questionnaire and documentation. The data are analyzed through qualitative analysis which is compared to quantitative analysis. From 384 respondents surveyed, 36% stated strongly agree, 55% stated agree, 9% stated neutral, 0% stated disagree, 0% stated strongly disagree. The average score is 1.593 which lies in the category of “agree”. In conclusion, the results of this study show that most citizens in Pekanbaru city "agree" with profession zakat.
