Abstract

Panipahan Village is a village that produces marine fish in Pasir Limau Kapas District as the number one fish producer in Rokan Hilir Regency but the fishermen in the village are not yet prosperous. This study aims 1) to analyze the characteristics and business profile of gill net fishermen, 2) fishing technology, 3) catching costs and income of gill net fishermen in Panipahan Teluk Pulai Village, Pasir Limau Kapas District, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study uses a survey method conducted in February 2020 - July 2021. Sampling is carried out by the census method, namely fishermen who own and operate with a number of selected respondents as many as 15 people. The type of data used is primary data from interviews and secondary data. The results showed (1) the average age of fishermen was 34.8 years, the education level of fishermen was 7.4 years, the length of business experience was 12.26 years and the number of dependents in the family was 3 people. The business profile in the form of a business is an individual business and the business scale is a micro business. (2) The fishing technology for fishermen in Panipahan Teluk Pulai Village, Pasir Limau Cotton District uses a motor boat with a size of 6-7 Gt, a machine that has the ability to sail and the operation is carried out by the owner fisherman and 4 crew members. The fishing gear used is a gill net with a net size of 3.5 inches and a net length of 66 bales (20m/bal) and the fishing operation is relatively simple. (3) The average cost of production/capture of gill net fishermen is Rp. 2,408,800 variable costs, fixed costs of Rp. 261,060 and crew members of Rp. 1,839,895, the income of fishermen who own gill nets is Rp. 7,269,598/trip and the profit of owner fishermen is Rp. 2,759,843/trip. The value of the R/C ratio of fishing effort with gill nets is 1.6, indicating that the fishing effort is feasible because the RCR value is more than 1 and the BEP of production of gill net fishermen is 203,316 Kg, which means that gill net fishermen must produce 203,316 Kg for return on investment and BEP Price is Rp. 13,760, which means that gill net fishermen must sell their catch at a price of Rp. 13,760 for a return on investment.
