Abstract
This research entitled “The Use of The WeChat Application as Interaction Media for Student from Faculty of Communication Sciences, Islam Communication Riau”. The aim of this research is to understanding the use and the benefit of social media site called WeChat. The principal of communication using social media site is to facilitate communication and interaction virtually without limit of time and space, and also can create harmonize communication and interaction. One of user of social media site as interaction and communication media is the Collage Student. Moreover, the social media site WeChat can be called as favorite communication media among collage student. Oftently, collage student think that activity of social media belongs to their life style. This research is using Uses and Gratifications Model which in this theory, respondens was prespected as active user of media in order to fulfill their life style need. The method which is used in this research is qualitative description. The aim of using this method is to give descriptions and identifications about the use and benefit of social media site. The result of this research shows that the use of social media site WeChat by the collage student has the purpose to gain information and newest knowledge through existing account in WeChat. Instead of gaining information, several informant uses WeChat as entertainment media, self promotion and also as media for business transaction.
