Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors that influence students' interest in choosing an accounting education major at islamic university of riau. The population and sample of this study were 72 accounting students in 2016. This research is a descriptive analysis. The method used is descriptive exploratory. The sampling technique uses probability sampling technique. While the calculation of sampling based on the sample described by Sugiyono, the number of samples used was 72 students. Data collection using questionnaire questionnaire. The instrument validity test uses the product moment correlation method and the instrument reliability test uses the SPSS application with Cronbach alpha. Data analysis techniques using descriptive analysis techniques with percentages. The results of this study indicate that there are 4 (four) factors that influence students' interest in choosing a major in accounting education: (1) Internal factors, which consist of self-motivation which influences 33%; and abilities that have an effect of 32%; (2) External factors, which consist of the influence of parents who influence by 17%; and the influence of friends who influence by 18%. So the high influential factor in this study is the self-encouraging factor with a percentage (33%), while the low influential factor is the influence factor of parents with a percentage of (17%).
