Abstract
Cohesion is divided into grammatical forms which are referred to as grammar cohesion, and the vocabulary pattern is referred to as lexical cohesion. The purpose of this research is to know the types and functions of cohesion applied in nine texts and for describes the integration of texts from English textbooks. `The methodology of this research is qualitative descriptive method. The researcher took nine texts from the English textbook "Pathway to English" published by Erlangga. In collecting data, researchers use documentation as this research instrument. Furthermore, in analyzing data, researchers used theory Halliday & Hassan and McCarthy. The research findings show that there are two types of cohesion used in the text readings such as grammatical and lexical cohesion. They are reference 162 items, 3 items substitution, 2 items of ellipsis and 75 items of conjunction as grammatical cohesion, and 22 items repetition and 1 collocation as lexical cohesion used in nine discussions read the text Pathway to English textbook. As a result, researchers concluded that type the most dominant cohesion used in reading text is a reference item
