Abstract

This study discusses information seeking behavior by students of the Faculty of Communication at the Riau Islamic University. Information seeking behavior is the behavior carried out by information seekers in interacting with all types of information systems. Information retrieval is an activity that is often carried out by Communication Studies Students of the Riau Islamic University with the development of information and communication technology. This information seeking behavior can provide a formulation to find out the behavior of users in social media. Communication Studies Students of Riau Islamic University use YouTube media to find information about makeup tutorials by showing the types of products they use as well as giving reviews of these products. This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive analysis that seeks to provide an overview of the situation that occurs, using interviews, documentation, library studies. The source of this research data was obtained from primary data and secondary data. The purpose of this study was to determine the behavior of Communication Studies Students of the Riau Islamic University in conducting information searches about natural makeup tutorials on YouTube. The results of this study can be seen that the Communication Sciences Students of Riau Islamic University have various patterns of information seeking in using YouTube as a medium for information retrieval.
