Abstract
This study aimed to determine the profile metacognition awareness and strategy of gender based in class VIII SMPN sub district of siak kecil bengkalis academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted in March 2018. The samples were students of class VIII totaling 204 consisting of 105 male students and 99 female students. Data collection instruments in the form of a questionnaire consisting of two questionnaires that metacognitive awareness questionnaire and questionnaires metacognition strategies. Based on the research data showed that class VIII junior high school student sub-district of siak kecil mostly already know about the awareness metacognition and metacognition strategies. In the male students no longer included in to the category of Not Developing and Still Very Risk. A total of 0,69% included in the category of Not So Flourishing, About 15,83% included in to the category start developing, largely included in to the category Already Developing Good as much as 70,59%, and as much as 12,86% included in the category of Emerging Very Good. While the students female no longer are included in the category of not developing, still really at risk and category of not so flourishing, as much as 13,93% included in to the category Star Developing, largely included in to the category Already Developing Good as much as 61,85%, and as much as 24,20% included in to the category of Emegering Very Good.while the use of metacognition strategies,100% of students have used strategies to learn.
