Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out significant effect of thematic progression instruction on students writing descriptive text of second grade of SMPN 3 Tambang. The teacher explained by using thematic progression instruction. Research methodology of this research is used quantitative, by using experimental design with pre – test and post – test were used two classes as sample and consist of 62 students ( 31 students’ of experimental class and 31 students’ control of class). The researcher took this sample by using sampling random sampling. The research finding shows that the improvement could be seen from the score of test. The result was found that there was significant effect on students’ writing descriptive text after being taught by using thematic progression instruction method for experimental class. The result of tcalculate obtained 8,236 will be compare to ttable, df = 30. At level 5 % is 2,042. It can be concluded that tcalculate is higher than ttable. In other word it can be read 8,236 > 2,042.. Based on the score, the researcher concluded that (Ho) rejected and (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded there is significant effect of thematic progression instruction on students’ writing descriptive text of the second year of SMP 3 Tambang.
