Abstract

The researcher analyzed this research that the title is “An Analysis of Affixation in Textbook Published by Erlangga” to collect the words that have derivational affixes in the textbook. The aim of this research is analyzing words formation process of derivational affixes, especially suffixes into root, suffix, part of speech, meaning and categorizing the function marker of words that have derivational affixes in the textbook. This research is qualitative research. The researcher got source of the data for this research is from English textbook published by Erlangga entitled: Pathway to English for Senior High School Grade XI”. The researcher found there are 145 derivational suffixes words in the paragraph texts. The researcher read carefully and listed all of the derivational suffixes words, then analyzed the utterances based on the function marker such as verb marker, noun marker, adjective marker and adverb marker. The final result is the researcher found derivational affixes words that found in the English textbook published by Erlangga is suffixes such as –ize , –ate, –ist, -or, -ity, -hood, -age, -ing, -al, -er, -ion, -ment, -ation, -ance, -ency, -eer, ness, -ive, -an, –ship, –ly, -ed, -ant, -al, -ing, -ary, -ial, -able, -ical, -ic, -ive, -an, –ful, –ly. In the function of derivational affixes, the researcher found verb marker (2), noun marker (84), adjective marker (31) and adverb marker (28).
