Abstract

Vocabulary is very important for English learners in order to master the language.However,to master vocabulary is not easy for the students.In learning vocabulary,the students have to be diligent to improve their vocabulary.While the teachers in english class have to be active to help the students to vocabulary.in this case,this study was done to find out how well vocabulary mastery of first year students at SMP IT AZIZIYAH Pekanbaru. This research was descriptive quantitative research,the instruments in this research was vocabulary test that consisted of 30 items which were constructed based on the indicators nouns,adjective and verb. The findings of the research show that the mean score of noun was 83.34 there was 19 students categorized into “very good”level.Then,for adjective, the avarage score of adjective was 79.56, there was 18 students categorized into “very good”level.Furthermore,for verb,the avarage score of verb was 83.34 there was 11 students categorized into “very good”level.In other words,the students at SMP IT AZIZIYAH Pekanbaru had best score in noun component of vocabulary mastery based on analysis test.
