Abstract

Semantics is a science of meaning. There are some branches of semantics. One of them is lexical relations. Indeed, lexical relations refer to an association between different words or meanings in a language. On the other hand, lexical relations have six components including hyponymy, synonymy, antonymy, homonymy, meronymy, and polysemy. In fact, lexical relations can be found in reading text like speech,magazine, newspaper and others. In addition, speech is The expression of an idea in circumstances where it is likely that the message would be understood.The objective of this research was to find out the components of lexical relations in Donald Trump’s speech entitled “President Donald Trump’s speech to the Muslim world delivered in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia”. This research used descriptive research. The data was taken from CNN news edition May 21, 2017. In analyzing the data the researher used theory from Creswell in Sugiyono (2013) ; The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures : collecting data in the participants’ setting ; analyzing the data inductively, building from particlulars to general themes: and making interpretations of the meaning of data. the final written report has a flexible writing structure. The result of the research showed that highest frequency was lexical relations as synonymy for twenty six cases. Then, hyponymy was least for eleven cases. Next, polysemy and homonym were rarely for two cases.
