Abstract

Folklore was an oral history that was preserved by the people of the culture, consisting of traditions belonging to a specific culture. However, the most important one of those skills that was used to comprehend a text and develop students’ knowledge was reading skill. So, this research was done to using folklore of Siak in reading skill.This research was used oral history. The qualitative study were interpretative in narrative oral history that was found about folklore in Siak district. Oral history was the specific research methodology that wa used, which is a valuable tool for researchers in education field. In this research, the number of participants who are the original people from the area was taken from the field that was four person. This research was conducted in Siak, Riau Province, Indonesia. The researcher gain the data was collected by used interview. After the research had been conducted, there were several sub-dsitrict of Siak regency that divided into 5 th categories that were used in the local wisdom in reading. Here are the title of each sub-district in the story; 1). Kerajaan Siak 2). Umbut Muda 3). Kerajaan Gasib 4). Pusako 5). Danau Naga Sakti 6). Perang Guntung. Every story had different ending with useful moral value that can learn from these stories.
