Abstract

Social value is value that underlies one's actions against others regardless of the consequences that may arise to himself, either in the form of luck or disadvantage.This research uses qualitative descriptive content analysis approach using Roland Barthes semiotics model to find out the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth of social value contained in photo winner of world press photo contest 2016 category people, Daily life, and best picture.This study aims to determine the social value of the photo winners of world press photo contest 2016.Data collection techniques used in this research is the observation of the winning photos in the category of people, daily life, and the best photos, accompanied by documentation and interview to a photo jury as well as a journalist. The results of this study indicate that in the photo of the winner of the world press photo contest 2016 tells about the social value of the human condition and describes the human side that can be seen from the six characteristics of social values in which the community interaction, social values that have different effects for members of the community, can affect personal development in society both positive and negative, social values can be transmitted to the surrounding community, and social values are communally interconnected to shape the patterns and value system in society.
