Abstract

HE well drilling in field G is planned to be drilled until the final depth reaches 5200 ft (MD). At the time of HE well drilling there was a problem of well kick at a depth of 4392 ft due to drilling penetrating the high pressure formation zone in the presence of gas content in the formation. The kick in the HE well is marked by the presence of gas bubbles in the mud. This well kick problem must be addressed properly so that no blow out occurs. The steps in evaluating well kick prevention in HE wells in G field with concurrent method are collecting drilling implementation report data, conducting analysis with calculations of formation pressure during well kick, mud hydrostatic pressure during well kick, new mud (kill mud weight), the number of sack barites added, the maximum allowable new mud weight (maximum allowable mud weight), the pump pressure to control the kill (kill rate pressure), the number of pump strokes needed during kick handling, the total time for well kick countermeasures, and the shut value in drillpipe pressure after handling well kicks. Conduct an evaluation by comparing the results of calculations with implementation data in the field, concluding the evaluation results. The results of the evaluation of the implementation of well kick control using the concurrent method obtained the results of the new mud density (kill mud weight) of 10.60 ppg. The number of barite sacks added to make new mud is 1369 sacks. The total pump stroke needed to pump mud is 2812 strokes, with a pumping duration of 46.88 minutes. Well kick was successfully overcome which was marked by the absence of flow in the annulus when the mud pump was shut down and the SIDP price showed a value of 0. The implementation of well kick countermeasures using the concurrent method was optimum.
