Abstract

The bright prospects for vegetable cultivation in the lowlands are still very promising with the increasing demand for vegetables in the market. The aim of the study was to examine the growth and production of short long bean on the interaction of the application of empty palm fruit bunches compost applied with stirring evenly in the treatment plots and the application of soaking the seeds in a concentrated solution of colchicine. The experiment used a two-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and three replications. Fertilizer factors of empty palm fruit bunches (EFB) and colchicine each at 4 levels. The follow-up test used was the DMRT at p<0.05. The average interaction test treatment for each plant at OPEFB 2 kg/per m2 and 1.5% colchicine produced the best stem diameter of 11.96 mm while the control was 8.41 mm. The main test of OPEFB compost at a dose of 2 kg per/m2 produced a stem diameter of 9.78 mm, while the seed soaking test with 1.5% colchicine concentration produced a stem diameter of 9.69 mm. Single treatment per plant on OPEFB compost and colchicine had a significant effect on leaf weight, each with the highest dose of OPEFB3 2 kg per/m2 (3.22 g), control 1.75 g and concentration 1.5% (2.54 g ), control 2.02 g. Observations of the fastest harvesting age were OPEFB2 (44.00 days), colchicine K3 (43.92 days) and control 46.41 days. Most of the pods treated with compost TKKS3 (121.85), and colchicine K0 (111.42) and control 89.58. The highest fruit weight was in the TKKS3 compost treatment (1579.26 g), and colchicine K0 (1504.31 g) and the control 1156.12 g. The highest concentration of chlorophyll b at the age of 15 days was in the combination of T1K1 (14401.17 mg L-1) and the concentration of control 111.42 mg L-1.
