Abstract

This research is motivated by the large number of Instagram users who upload interesting news that invites other Instagram users to comment. Researchers are interested in researching this because of the use of language as a means of communication to convey certain intentions. The theory used in this study is the theory of expressive speech acts put forward by Searle. This study's methodology is a aualitative approach. The content analysis method was employed in this study. The @pkucity Instagram comment column captioned "Jokowi Raise Pertalite to Rp.10,000, Pertamax Rp.14,500/L" served as the study's primary source of data for all language behaviors that aualify as expressive speech. All of the utterances classified as expressive speech acts constitute the study's data. The data of this study are all utterances identified as expressive speech acts. Data colection technaues used in this studi are: docmentation technaues, observation technaues, and nite-taking technaues. The research data analisis technaues are divided into four, namely, coding, data classification and looking for relationships, and report drafts. The results of this study are that thre are five expressve speech functions, namely, (1) the expressive speech function of blaming, (2) the expresive speech function of congratulating, (3) the expressive speech function of praising, (4) the expressive speech function of thanking, and (5) ) expressive speech function of condolences. The conclusion of this study is that the utterances most used by speakers in the @pkucity Instagram comment column are expressive speech functions of blaming. This is because many people feel disadvantaged by the government's policy of increasing fuel prices
