Abstract
Reading helps students gain new knowledge, information, and experiences to improve their language understanding. One of the problems students have in understanding the material is that they feel bored in class and find it difficult to understand the material. This research aims to determine students' perceptions of using artificial intelligence in critical reading classes in the fourth semester of FKIP UIR. The method used in this research is qualitative, using questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires were distributed to 45 fourth-semester students. There are four indicators of students' perceptions of artificial intelligence, namely. 1. students' perception attitudes towards artificial intelligence. 2. students' behavior in using artificial intelligence. 3. students' perceived ease in using artificial intelligence. 4. disadvantages in using artificial intelligence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of this study showed that students who answered agreed (46.2%), neutral (35.6%), strongly agreed (13.3%), disagreed (11.6%), strongly disagreed (1.8%). From these results, it can be concluded that students' perceptions of artificial intelligence in critical reading classes in the fourth semester are good. Based on the results of interviews, it shows that students' perceptions of artificial intelligence are generally good. Students agree that artificial intelligence helps them understand the material in critical reading classes, although there are also students who disagree that using artificial intelligence is still of little benefit.
