Abstract

This study was conducted to seek the truth of the occurrence of bono waves based on folklore and scientific reality. This study was conducted by obtaining through a qualitative descriptive approach. The Data collection techniques used observation, interviews and participating documentation. The data analysis process carried out through data analysis, data presentation, drawing conclusions/verification. The results of the research show that based on folklore the name 'Bono' in the local community means 'true'. This word has its own story when the King of Pelalawan asked the envoy of the local community to face the Wing Palace but the envoy was prevented from seeing the river. Due to the absence of the envoy, the king ordered checks directly whether there were really violent waves in the river. Finally, the information is true that the word 'true' in the local language is called 'bono' and since the word 'bono' has been attached to the river waves in Teluk Meranti. This terrible wave has another name that is enough to make surfers Goosebumps, namely 'Seven Ghosts' (Seven Ghosts). The scientific reality of the occurrence of bono waves is caused by the confluence of three currents at the mouth of the Kampar river between the Malacca Strait, the South China Sea, and the Kampar River itself and produce strong collision, because the Kampar river's water discharge was less, the collision resulted in a stimulus into the Kampar river and produced waves that had reached a height of 4 meters and this phenomenon made the waves come in tandem up to seven layers of waves.
