Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine the utilization of social, cultural potential, structure and form of presentation of Silat Pangean, Koto Rajo Village, Kuantan Singingi Regency. This type of research is a qualitative method that focuses on in-depth observations seen from all sides and this research uses an ethnographic study approach. The population and sample in this study were Induok Induok Barompek teachers, Induok Barompek, the village head of Koto Rajo and the local community, totaling 8 people with a sampling technique, namely total sampling so that the sample in this study was 8 people. The data collection technique in this research is carried out by recording events, things and information that have the characteristics of all elements that support and support the research. Data collection was carried out using certain techniques, based on several known data collection techniques, namely: observation, interviews and documentation. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Silat Pangean is a martial art that was born and popularized from generation to generation by great teachers (Induok Barompek) of Silat Pangean from a long time ago. Pangean Silat is known for its soft and graceful movements but with deadly power. The function of Silat Pangean was previously used to protect or defend oneself from various threats such as wild animals or other antacan which could cause harm and to continue survival from various things that disturb safety, now Silat Pangean functions as an entertainment event, weddings, such as welcoming guests from women to men, circumcisions, events on Eid, and so on. And in terms of form, this Pangean silat has a slightly different form from other silat, namely starting from Empty Hand Silat, Podang Silat, and Shield Silat where there are several forms of Empty Hand Silat including Ompek step movements, Mahompe Tenju, Swinging and Stabbing.
