Abstract

The government has a role in improving the standard of living of the community by implementing empowerment. The high need for food is an opportunity for the community to pursue agricultural activities in groups. For this reason, empowering women farming groups (kwt) is important in fulfilling food needs and achieving the vision and mission of Pelalawan Makmur. This study aims to determine the Empowerment of Women Farmer Groups by the Office of Food Security, Food Crops and Horticulture in Pangkalan Lesung District, Pelalawan Regency and its obstacles. The type of research was determined by a descriptive survey with a qualitative approach. Data collection is done by interview, observation, and documentation. The results of the study found that the empowerment of women farming groups (kwt) by the Office of Food Security, Food Crops and Horticulture through the UPT Agriculture in Pangkalan Lesung District, Pelalawan Regency had been carried out with various activities to support the existence and consistency of farmers. Empowerment is seen from three stages namely 1) awareness, 2) strengthening, and 3) protection. The obstacles found in the empowerment of women farming groups (kwt) are the difficulty in raising the awareness of the community to form farmer groups, the assistance provided is limited so that not all groups receive agricultural assistance, and finally there is no agricultural insurance for farmer groups for businesses that are in the process of growing.
