Abstract
ABSTRACT Yulia Winarni, An Analysis of Derivational Prefixes Found in Reading Text of English Textbook For Tenth Grade Of Senior High School Published By KEMENDIKBUD. A Thesis: English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Islam Riau, 2023. This study aims to discuss derivational prefixes in the English textbook for the tenth grade of senior high school. Derivational prefixes were interesting to analyze since they affect forming of words from simple to more complex. Using content analysis and qualitative methods, this study intends to find the dominant derivational prefixes in the tenth-grade senior high school English textbook published by KEMENDIKBUD 2016. The data source was taken from the reading texts of the English book. The characteristics of derivational prefixes were analyzed using (Kadek claria, 2017) theory to classify derivational prefixes into several groups and supported theory by (Rugaiyah, 2018) in forming derivational affixes. This study's results showed nine groups of derivational affixes found in the English textbook. First, the researcher found that 72 words contain derivational prefixes. Second, of the 72 words, the most dominant derivational prefix group in the English textbook is the prefixes time and order which appear around 27.77%, including the "re-", "un-", and ?ex-“prefixes. From the conclusion of this study, the authors suggest that students should learn about derivational affixes, especially prefixes because they are significant in word formation. By learning derivational prefixes, students can develop a word.
