Abstract
The existence of women in political institutions is certainly highly anticipated. However, very often women who run for office are in the public spotlight, because there are obstacles to moving to become part of political participation, there are very few women and the low representation of women in political institutions. even though the government has issued an affirmative action policy to ensure the realization of the number of women's representation in every political activity. This study aims to determine the electability of female legislative candidates in the 2019 elections in Pekanbaru City and to determine the obstacles to the electability of female legislative candidates in the 2019 elections in Pekanbaru City. The type of research used in this research is sociological research. This research was conducted in Pekanbaru City. Research data collection techniques use interviews with parties related to the overall problem of this research. Data analysis used is a qualitative technique by way of deductive inference. From the results of the study, the election of female legislative candidates in the 2019 elections in Pekanbaru City has not run optimally. Obstacles to the election of female legislative candidates in the 2019 elections in Pekanbaru City, namely women still have responsibilities from their husbands, the lack of participation of fellow women in the political sphere because of the strong paradigm of men in society who think that women are more suitable to be at home . Apart from that, there is still a strong patriarchal culture for some men and the surrounding community, a lack of political education and voter education, a lack of training and strengthening of women's political skills and a lack of awareness for women to be active and involved in political activities such as legislative institutions and political parties.
