Abstract
This research is motivated by the rise of viral items that have become a trend among the public, especially young people, which has resulted in consumptive behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of self-control on consumptive behavior of goods that are currently trending in Psychology students at the Islamic University of Riau. This research is a quantitativ research. The sample in this study amounted to 100 people. The data collection method used in this research is in the form of a scale, in which two scales are used in this study, namely the selfcontrol scale and the consumptive behavior scale. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling with accidental sampling technique. The data analysis technique in this study uses simple linear regression. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it is obtained that the t value is -4.835 and the significance value is 0.000 <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant negative effect between self-control on consumptive behavior of goods that are currently trending in Psychology students at the Islamic University of Riau. The results of the coefficient of determination test (R Square) get a value of 0.193. This means that the effect of the self-control variable on the consumptive behavior variable is 19.3%.
