Abstract
The aims of this study are to find the types of sentences used in some texts in tenth grade English books, and to find the type of sentence mostly used in the books. In this study, the authors examined tenth grade English books published by KEMENDIKBUD RI, which consisted of 15 chapters. the writer examines the reading texts in this book totaling 11 chapters. Thesis This study uses a quantitative descriptive method to analyze the types of sentences that are used and simple calculations to calculate the type of sentence from the text in books in terms of frequency and percentage of analysis results. Collection data was collected by finding English Textbooks, finding texts in each chapter of the textbooks, selecting and reading texts in each chapter, identifying the types of sentences in English Textbooks, analyzing the types of sentences. Data is analyzed by making tables and determining the types of sentences. Based on the results of the analysis of the 11 chapters, it shows that simple sentences are used more often than compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. In addition, from the results of the overall analysis, 139 sentences were found and analyzed. The types of sentences found were 70 simple sentences (50%), 30 compound sentences (22%), 34 complex sentences (24,4%), 5 compound-complex sentences (3,6%). So, the most used type of sentence in several texts in English books is a simple sentence. It can be interpreted that the use of simple sentences can make young readers easily understand the contents of the book.
