Abstract
Pekanbaru City is a large city with low interest in walking. This research was conducted to identify the factors that influence the desire of the Pekanbaru city community to walk and to identify the walking ability of the Pekanbaru city community. The approach used in this study is an inductive approach, because the research examines unusual problems related to the low desire to walk in the city of Pekanbaru. The data collection method used in this study was a questionnaire and literature study. To identify the factors that influence the desire to walk the people of Pekanbaru City, the analysis used is factor analysis. The results of the factor analysis explain that there are 9 (nine) formed factors that influence the desire of the people to walk in the city of Pekanbaru which consists of factors of public transportation facilities, availability of pedestrian facilities, conditions of pedestrian facilities, safety and cost efficiency, transportation network connectivity, convenience and pedestrian motives, accessibility, side barriers, and income levels. For the results of the identification of the walking distance ability of the Pekanbaru city community, it was found that the walking distance ability of the Pekanbaru city community was influenced by the purpose of the trip to be carried out by the Pekanbaru city community.
