Abstract

On social media, especially on Twitter, code mixing has become commonplace among K-pop fans. They use English and Korean words or phrases in their tweets, even though Indonesian is the main language. The factors why K-Pop fans use code mixing in their tweets can be related to their social life and personal thoughts. This research aims to analyze the forms of code-mixing and the factors that influence Indonesian K-pop fans' use of code-mixing on Twitter. The research design of this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The research instruments are documentation and interview. The researcher conducted research from the tweets of several Indonesian K-pop fan accounts on Twitter, especially fans of the BTS and NCT groups, namely ARMY and NCTZEN, in their tweets from July 1, 2022, to July 31, 2022. The results of this study indicate that Indonesian K-pop fans used six forms of code mixing in their tweets. Insertion of word; insertion of phrase; insertion of hybrid; insertion of word reduplication; insertion of idiom; and insertion of clause are the six forms of code mixing. This can happen because Indonesian K-pop fans are already familiar with the Korean language through music or drama and immediately use it in their tweets. It also shows that there are five factors that influence Indonesian K-pop fans using code-mixing on Twitter. The five influencing factors are: participants, social community, situation, vocabulary, and bilingualism.
