Abstract

The purpose of this research to know whether students still have problems in writing passive voice or not and to find out the kinds of students' problems in writing passive voice. Based on the researcher asked the lecturer in question, most of students’ have problems in writing passive voice. In this research, the researcher used descriptive quantitative research method. The researcher took 25 sample in random from 45 students of the sixth semester of English Language Education in FKIP Universitas Islam Riau. The data is collected by using test in writing test form with changing active voices to passive voices. Based on the research findings, the researcher found that most students still have difficulty writing passive voice with an average of 37.6%. The most difficulty faced by students is difficulty choosing the right auxiliary words and the least difficulty experienced by students is not knowing the past participle (V3) form of the words. The cause of the difficulty is the lack of mastery of the material about passive voice, especially the right formulas and auxiliary verbs to use.
