Abstract
Elephant grass (Pennisctum purpureum) is one of the quality animal feeds and is preferred by livestock. The manufacture of this chopper is expected to be a new breakthrough for farmers who are still chopping manually. The process of designing the elephant grass chopper is carried out in stages, namely: planning and explanation of functions, concept planning (working drawings). Technical analysis includes analysis of power, torque that occurs on the shaft and frame construction. The driving force of the elephant grass chopper is designed to use a combustion motor with a power of 5.5 HP with an average rpm of 750 - 3600 rpm. The results of the design produce an elephant grass chopper with specifications, length 790 mm, width 710 mm and height 800 mm. The production capacity of the lawn mower is 112 kg/hour. The source of engine propulsion is a 5.5 hp combustion engine with 1400 rpm rotation. The transmission system uses a v-belt with a 17 mm drive shaft. with pulley diameters of 60 mm and 180 mm. Frame construction with a profile of 40 x 40 x 3 mm. And the casing uses a plate with a thickness of 0.8 mm.
