Abstract

The business of making tempe in Tangga Batu Village, Tanjung Medan District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province faces problems such as limited raw materials and business skills and lack of good management skills. Although the tempe business in Tangga Batu Village, Tanjung Medan District experienced many obstacles in its development, this business was able to survive in the midst of competition with larger tempe processing industries. This study aims to determine the characteristics of entrepreneurs and tempe business profiles, business feasibility and strategies applied to tempe business development in Tangga Batu Village, Tanjung Medan District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province. Survey methods was used and conducted in Tangga Batu Village, Tanjung Medan District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province during the November 2021 to April 2022. Quantitative and Qualitative analyses were conducted to determine the characteristics of entrepreneurs and business profiles as well as to analyze the financial feasibility of tempeh business based on investment feasibility criteria, namely NPV, IRR, Net B/C, BEP and PP, to determine whether a business is feasible or not. SWOT matrix to create a small tempe industry development strategy. The results showed that there were 3 (three) entrepreneurs in the tempe-making business in Tangga Village. Feasibility analysis of the tempe business in Tangga Batu Village, Tanjung Medan District with an NPV value of Rp. 405.796.993 is feasible. The BCR value of 7,61 is feasible. The IRR value is 91%, feasible. PP value is within a period of 1 years 7 months is feasible. The strategy that can be applied is SO (Strength Opportunities), which is to utilize and maximize internal strengths and external opportunities by maintaining affordable prices, increasing production and marketing and developing new types of tempe products, such as making tempe chips, etc.
