Abstract

This study aims to determine the success of the Use of WhatssApp Group by Students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Riau Islamic University. WhatsApp is an instant messaging application and others for smartphones. The WhatsApp app can also send pictures, sounds, and videos. But WhatsApp does not use credit, but internet data. So WhatsApp is relatively more economical. That's why WhatsApp is widely used in the world of education. In this research, researchers use qualitative methods with descriptive analysis in which they explain events, do not explain relationships, do not test hypotheses, or make predictions. The source of this research data was obtained from primary data, which was obtained directly from the results of observations and in-depth interviews with several students at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Riau Islamic University (UIR), and secondary data was obtained from books, journals and the internet. The results of this study show that the use of WhatsApp Group by students of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Riau Islamic University (UIR) is in accordance with the determining indicators of success, namely reach and engagement. Reach is how widely the dissemination of information that can be received by members in the group, while engagement is the interest in interacting with information in the group.
