Abstract
Formation water which is also produced from the reservoir during oil and gas production, should be treated first before being injected back into the reservoir. If the formation water produced is not treated before being injected into the injection well, it will cause problem in the injection well, one of which can cause corrosion and scale formation, because the untreated formation water still contains elements of ionic compounds. By applying proper treatment, the produced formation water can be reused properly. One method that can be applied to treat formation water is to use corncob biomass as activated carbon. The manufacture of activated carbon made from corn cobs is carried out in 3 stages, namely the dehydration process, the carbonization process is carried out using a furnace with temperature of 600?C for 1 hours, and the activation process uses a concentration of 40% NaOH and 60% NaOH. Testing the ability of corncob activated carbon in the formation water treatment orocess was carried out by immersing the activated carbon into a sampel of formation water with a ratio of 1:100 for 16 hours and 24 hours. The method for testing the ability of corncob activated carbon in the formation water treatment process is to determine the pH of the formation water using a pH meter, the conductivity of the formation water using a conductometry tool, Ca, Mg, CO3, HCO3, Fe, ions interfere with the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) method, the turbidity level of the water using turbiditymetry, salinity using a salinity meter and Natrium a Natrium Meter.
