Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet. To suppress the increasing number of cases, the Covid-19 vaccine has been started. The Pekanbaru City Government recommends that all people in the city of Pekanbaru get the vaccine for Covid-19. Giving this vaccine is the most appropriate solution to reduce the number of cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 disease. However, not a few people in the city of Pekanbaru have not agreed to the recommendation of the Pekanbaru City Government to undergo the Covid-19 vaccination. Some people are worried about the possible side effects of the vaccine. There is also a lack of public trust in the government regarding the safety and side effects of this vaccine because the Covid-19 vaccine is still relatively new. Various myths and hoaxes circulating about the Covid-19 vaccine are one of the factors that encourage people's doubts about getting vaccinated. Therefore, to increase public awareness of the city of Pekanbaru, the Pekanbaru City Government through the Covid-19 Task Force developed a communication strategy. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The sampling technique/research subject used in this study used a purposive sampling technique. Subjects in this study based on predetermined criteria were medical personnel, Polri and TNI. The results of this study are the communication strategy of the Pekanbaru City Government regarding public awareness during the pre-vaccination of Covid-19 in Pekanbaru through massive education and socialization activities through print media and other social media, local television media RTv and one of them who often appeals to the public against vaccination is the Governor. Riau. However, this activity still has not produced effective results because it cannot reach all levels of society.
