Abstract

Economic development, especially in Indonesia, cannot be separated from the role of cooperatives which are the pillars of economic development in Indonesia. The existence of cooperatives certainly has a good impact on the growth and development of the business world so that the existence of these cooperatives can bring prosperity to the members of the cooperative itself. But often in an effort to improve the welfare of cooperative members, there must be efforts made by active cooperatives to achieve prosperity, and there must be obstacles faced in improving the welfare of members of the cooperative. From the above background, the authors formulate the main problems, namely: first, how is the role of the Cooperative Farmers Group Association (GAPOKTAN) Kopertim in Improving the Welfare of Members?. Second, What Are the Obstacles of the Joint Farmer Group Cooperative (Gapoktan) of Kopertim in Improving the Welfare of Members? The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which the role of the Cooperative Farmers' Group of Kopertim in Improving the Welfare of its Members and to be able to find out what obstacles were faced and how to resolve these obstacles in improving the welfare of members. The type of research used in this research is empirical legal research, namely by going directly to the object of research to be able to find out the symptoms that arise in the community and then comparing whether the symptoms that arise in the community can be solved using legal theory. While the nature of this research is descriptive. Drawing conclusions deductively, namely general things to things that are specific. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Cooperatives have an important role in improving the welfare of their members, in addition to providing income to members, also opening up employment opportunities and providing education and assistance in developing the business being undertaken, but the biggest obstacle faced in improving the welfare of members is the lack of quality resources. Human Resources, both management and members of the cooperative, which have an impact on the lack of development of the cooperative.
