Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the influence of ability on employee performance in the General Section of the Regional Secretariat of the Meranti Islands Regency. The type of research used in this study is quantitative using an associative explanatory approach. The results of research on the ability of employees can be seen that from the three indicators, conclusions are obtained based on respondents' responses on a good category scale. And from the recapitulation on the employee performance variable, it can be seen that the respondents' responses are on a very good category scale. Based on the significant value from the Coefficients table above, it can be concluded that the ability variable (X) has an effect on the employee performance variable (Y). Then H1 is rejected and H2 is accepted, meaning that the Ability variable (X) has a significant influence on employee performance (Y). From the results of research on employee abilities, it can be seen that from the three indicators based on respondents' responses, the scale is in the good category but still needs to be improved, especially in improving employee education and training. Some of the causes of employee performance have not reached the target due to several factors that influence it such as a relatively high workload factor, employees feel the work target is too high to be achieved in a year with frequent changes to the central government system with current conditions, as well as the limited number of existing employees while a large number of jobs such as an incoming letter that must be entered into the system, the target time must be completed by the time the letter arrives. However, the input can be past working hours, i.e. after 16.00 WIB. If this condition occurs continuously, it will have an impact on not achieving organizational goals and reporting to the leadership is also not timely.
