Abstract

The background to the problem of ethnic marriage in Kenegrian Sentajo, Kuantan Singingi Regency is based on Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage because in the Kenegrian Sentajo custom, ethnic marriage is strictly prohibited, because it can divide their descendants, but the custom is meant here if they are in the same tribe. . The purpose of this study was to determine the basis for the prohibition of ethnic marriage in Kenegrian Sentajo, Kuantan Singingi Regency and to find out the obstacles of a married couple from ethnic marriage in Kenegrian Sentajo, Kuantan Singingi Regency. This research is a type of empirical research using a qualitative approach. The research location was conducted in Kenegrian Sentajo, Kuantan Singingi Regency. The researcher uses the primary legal material, Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage, the Sentajo Kenegrian system book, and the book on the introduction of Indonesian customary law. Secondary legal materials Explanation of the laws and regulations used as primary legal materials. Reading literature books that explain ethnic marriage. Research results, competent expert opinion. Tertiary legal materials Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), encyclopedias, cumulative index and so on. Based on the results of the study that the reason for the prohibition of ethnic marriage in Kenegrian Sentajo was prohibited because the community thought that those of the same tribe were brothers and were of the same descent or blood and separui (abdomen) so that it was prohibited in the marriage process and also to maintain inheritance and tribal harmony, because if Later, a divorce between the husband and wife will disrupt the harmony of the tribe, but there are also people who positively accept ethnic marriage in order to avoid adultery and also because it does not conflict with religion, even though it is forbidden for ethnic marriage to remain valid with the consequences of neighbors and the local community being unkind, From the various explanations above, as a Minang people who obey customary regulations, it is necessary to accept oneself not to carry out the ban on ethnic marriage. The point is that the Minang Kabau community accepts the reality that ethnic marriage is prohibited in Kenegrian Sentajo. There are many things that can prevent married couples from intermarrying between tribes, namely marrying with a distant family system and no family relationship, understanding local customs and habits, socializing with local ninik mamak, and getting to know their own family.
