Abstract
The laying hens business of Rahmat Jaya Farm plays a role in increasing regional income, but there are still some external constraints that affect the internal conditions of the business. This study aims to determine and analyze (1) the characteristics of business actors and business profiles; (2) internal conditions covering cultivation technology, production factors, production costs, production, income and efficiency; (3) external conditions which include Political, Economic, Social, Technology, Legal and Environmental; and (4) business development strategy. This study uses a survey method. Research on Rahmat Jaya Farm laying hens in Mungo Village, Luak Sub-District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province was carried out from November 2021 - April 2022. Internal respondents were 13 people, namely entrepreneur and 12 employees who were taken by census, while respondents external, namely a veterinarian taken by purposive sampling. The data used are primary data and secondary data. The data analysis method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative as well as PESTLE and SWOT analysis methods. The results showed that: (1) The average age of business actors was 33.92 years, the education level of business actors was 10.85 years, business experience was 6.81 years and the average family dependent was 2 people. The laying hens farming business was established in 1986 until now, the business scale includes medium scale, has a business license and the business capital used is Rp. 12,780,710,768. (2) The production period is carried out for 24 months with 30,000 laying hens; production costs incurred Rp 10,351,786,768/period; the resulting production includes eggs, rejected chickens and chicken manure; gross income earned Rp 13,013,280,000/period and net income Rp 2,661,493,232/period; and RCR of 1.26. (3) External conditions have the opportunity to have the highest weight score with the number 0.17, namely information on the world of laying hens farming is very easy to access via the internet and the rules for having a business license if the capacity of laying hens is >10,000 heads/production period. Threat external conditions have the highest weight score with 0.17, namely fluctuations in feed and egg prices and expensive technology prices. (4) Business development strategies that have potential and need to be prioritized are: (a) Increasing production capacity; (b) increase promotion; and (c) expanding market reach.
