Abstract

ABSTRACT Rizsa Anjarinanda Damanik, 2022. An Analysis of Moral Values in "Coraline" movie. (A movie directed by Henry Selick). English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Islam Riau. Keywords: Moral values, Movie, Coraline movie. Moral values are the means or core of basic human norms, which are useful for supporting or upholding the norm values, whether good or bad values in ascertaining the right or wrong of an act and human behavior. The purpose of this study is to find out what moral values are contained in the "Coraline" movie. This study examines dialogues that contain moral values by applying the theory of Linda and Eyre. In conducting this research, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study were collected using observation technique by watching and reading the script for the "Coraline" movie carefully. From the research that has been done, the researcher identified eight moral values in the "Coraline" movie. The moral values found in the "Coraline" movie contain courage, peace ability or peace-loving, loyalty and dependability, respect, love and affection, unselfishness and sensitivity, kindness and friendliness, justice and mercy. Of these eight types of moral values, unselfishness and sensitivity are the most dominant moral values that appear in the movie entitled "Coraline".
