Abstract

The rise of cases of spreading false news (hoax) regarding Covid-19 in Riau has caused the Riau Police to be overwhelmed in carrying out law enforcement. Considering the hoax case regarding Covid-19 since the emergence of Covid-19 in Indonesia. Sub-directorate V Cyber conducts investigations based on reports from the public as well as the findings of separate investigations. Generally, the modus operandi of spreading fake news or hoaxes about Covid-19 is spread through social media, or cyberspace such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram. In this thesis entitled "Law Enforcement Regarding the Crime of Spreading Fake News (Hoax) During the Covid-19 Pandemic Period at the Riau Police" this problem is discussed, namely: How is Law Enforcement Related to the Crime of Spreading Fake News (Hoax) During the COVID-19 Pandemic Period. 19 at the Riau Police and what are the inhibiting factors in law enforcement related to the crime of spreading false news (hoax) during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Riau police. The method used to answer the problems mentioned above is to use a sociological (empirical) legal research method, which is a data collection technique, where researchers make direct observations of the research object to see closely the activities carried out. Meanwhile, judging from its nature, this research is descriptive analytical. The results of the study show that law enforcement carried out by the Riau Police Ditreskrimsus has not been able to stop the crime of spreading hoaxes, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The rise of fake news about Covid-19 that occurred in Riau has caused the Riau Police Ditreskrimsus to have difficulty investigating and following up on crimes committed on social media or cyberspace. This is due to the increasing number of fake news regarding Covid starting from 2019. Several factors have become obstacles in law enforcement related to the crime of spreading false news (hoax) during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Riau Police. First, the factor of the lack of Human Resources in the Riau Police Ditreskrimsus who can master the field of cyber technology. Second, the community factor where the people of Riau Province do not pay attention to the appeal and socialization from the government regarding fake news that discusses Covid-19 and disseminates news without understanding and finding out first about the truth of the news obtained. The last factor is that the infrastructure owned by the Ditreskrimsus is inadequate so that it cannot optimally support law enforcement against the crime of spreading false news (hoaxes) during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Riau Police.
