Abstract

This research aims to analyze how the representation of family relationships that occur in the film "Encanto". This research uses a qualitative method with semiotic analysis using the theory of Roland Barthes. This theory will reveal signs with denotations, connotations, and myths in the film. Data collection techniques from this research are observation and documentation. Based on the results of this study, namely using observation techniques, namely data collection by observing. Watch the entirety of Walt Disney Animation Studio's first musical “Encanto,� directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, with Charise Castro Smith. After that, Documentation will be carried out, namely Grouping the data according to the problem formulation. Entering data in the form of pieces from the film that are in accordance with the problem formulation. In every data collection carried out, it aims to make it easier to analyze data so as to gain understanding and understanding in the problems studied, namely the Semiotic Analysis of Family Representations in the Film "Encanto". The results of this research found the meaning of signs in the form of family representations that do not distinguish each child and provide a sense of security, mutual belonging, mutual respect, mutual trust with one another without being covered up and families who are too demanding and differentiate their children will make the child is not confident in every decision he makes.
