Abstract

In the steam production process at PLTU the boiler is one of the most important units where the boiler is a closed vessel-shaped device used to heat water to produce steam (steam). In the process of operation, the boiler is assisted by a soot blower, which is the equipment used to clean scale and ash from the combustion of fuel, where the soot blower is used to maintain the efficiency of heat transfer in the boiler heating pipes. This study aims to determine the efficiency of the boiler before and after the soot blower and to determine the effect of the operation of the soot blower on the use of boiler fuel. This research uses 3 methods, namely, literature study method, field observation method, and interview method. The results of the analysis of data calculations show that the efficiency of the boiler efficiency after the soot blower is done is 81.44% while the efficiency of the boiler before the soot blower is only 73.70%. By doing soot blower can save boiler fuel by 3,521 kg/hour.
